Great coffee grinder! This grinds well, and can go for a long time since it uses my mixer for power. I prefer to grind a whole bag of beans at a time and this one will grind right into my canister. It is as quick as any of them and no louder than my mixer. If you only want to grind enough for a pot at a time it has a container to grind into that works fine also. It could be a pain if you have to get your mixer out every time, but if it lives on your counter or you want to grind a large amount at once it is fabulous!Pros:- Doesn't require additional counter space- Very quiet- Grinds coffee quickly- Easy to cleanCons:- There's really just one con -- the grind settings doesn't really make much difference in the grind size, you basically get a pretty fine grind all the time.Because of this one single con, I will have to continue to use my Capresso burr grinder.I have several different types of grinders, but I'm always a sucker for KitchenAid attachments. This seems to do a great job of grinding. The housing is plastic, but durable plastic. Once you've started grinding, the grinding adjustment is easier to turn if you do so while it's running - pretty hard to turn if you stop, but going from fine to coarse should be doable. The catching container seems pretty small, but if you're just grinding for one big pot, a hopper nearly full and a nearly full container is just about perfect. On the coarser end, it almost seems like you're just getting a few bigger chunks of bean mixed in with finer grounds. If you want a true homogenous coarse grind (like for a French press), you might be better off with a hand-crank grinder. For just regular daily coffee for a pour-over or drip coffeemaker, this does just fine.Of course, this grinder does hang off the front of your mixer and it may not be practical to leave it on all the time, or to have to put it on/take it off every time you use it. For the price, I'm sure you could find a decent stand-alone grinder, but if you're not grinding coffee daily or if you just can't stand to have one more electrical appliance in your kitchen, this is a very good functional solution to your grinding needs and works quite well. Of course, if you like to grind a whole bag of beans at a time, this might be more practical for you than other options, but you might be better off removing the catch container and just grinding into a larger container so you can keep filling the hopper without having to empty the container constantly. If having a grinder attached to your mixer is practical for you, this does a pretty fine job and seems to be quite a durable design.I love my KitchenAide and use it often as it makes mixing so easy. I have a few attachments for it already that work great and as an avid coffee drinker I was interested in getting the grinding attachment. Please not that this attachment is made by KitchenMod not Kitchenaide and while it is compatible it isn't necessarily out of the same materials. The attachment is easy to install and I was able to clip the tab into place easily. It runs off the power of the mixer and because of that it pretty quiet overall compared to my little herb grinder. I didn't like the catch cup at the bottom, it is not big enough for my purposes and so I took it off to grind into a canister. But I wish there was a slightly bigger attachment for that so I don't get coffee all over the counter. There is a dial on the front that you should be able to change the size of the grounds. But I found that it didn't really adjust anything size wise. It is always a fine grind. This is okay for me since I'm going to put it into a coffee maker and not a press. But if you wanted to use a French press it is probably to fine.I have ran peppercorns through it and got a fine grind on those but it was really hard to clean out since this isn't what it is was made for and one one my pots of coffee after was a little peppery. So if you are doing herbs that could be an issue and you will always get that fine grind which again might not work for your needs.I only do a bag of coffee at a time because I really don't like to have the kitchenaide out on the counter daily as it takes up a lot of space. Overall I like the idea of this unit and how it can grind coffee beans but am disappointed that you can't control the grind size well. The big draw to the KitchenMod Coffee Burr Grinder Attachment for KitchenAid for me was the idea of having a grinder at the ready that did not take up additional counter space. In that goal this grinder definitely accomplishes it. That is pretty much where it ends though. The grinder does work quite well and it's really quiet in operation. Where the grinder falls short and drops to only 3 stars is the grind size. The adjustment doesn't do anything. All you will ever get is the exact same fine grind regardless of settings.Ive had the same little coffee bean grinder for years and years. I've looked into getting a burr grinder and then dismiss the idea as coffee snobbery. The opportunity to get this, as an accessory to the mixer was too good to pass up. Screws right into the front of the mixer (where all the accessories go) and you're ready to grind! i'm not a huge fan of the little cup the coffee all falls into, but if you take it off, the ground coffee can go straight into your own storage container (be careful here, it might get all over the counter). It does require a little stirring (safety grid won't allow your finger in there) to keep it moving along. It is fairly quiet (WAY quieter than my previous grinder) and the coffee is actually ground to a better texture. There is a dial that allows you to grind your coffee to your preferred method of brewing. I alternate between pour-over and French press, so not much difference there. I grind a pound of coffee at a time, instead of how i used to do it: every other day, scaring everyone with the noise. If you have a kitchen aide, this is a handy attachment! (Caveat: this is NOT made by kitchen aide, who as far as i know do not make a grinder attachment). But its use is seamless with the mixer, and like not having one more appliance.
