I got this grinder to use a windfall of free coffee beans. I wanted to try a French press (bought at Goodwill for $3) so I wanted a grinder that could do a coarse grind. I’m the only one that drinks coffee in my house, so this was the perfect size for me. One hopper-full makes more than one large mug (about 1.5 cups), which is what I need. I bought this one because it has a ceramic grinding surface, and a wing nut to continuously adjust the grind instead of 2 or 3 settings. I’d also read that electric grinders can go too fast and scorch the beans.I love this grinder! A feature that wasn’t mentioned in the description when I bought it is that the grind handle FOLDS UP! It fits perfectly in my cabinet with its tiny footprint. It’s satisfying to hand crunch the beans. If you like cracking ice on puddles or popping bubble wrap you’ll know what I mean. The beans feed into the grinding surface by gravity, so you have to shake it or tilt it every few turns of the crank. If I turn on my electric kettle before starting, the grinding is done right on time. It’s pretty and fits in my hand nicely. I just wipe out the hopper and clear plastic cup once in a while with a dry tissue. One thing was that the plastic catch-cup was very tight to begin with. It’s not screw-threaded, but you push up and clockwise to click it in place. It was so tight I was afraid I would break it, but it just needed to unscrew the first time for it to loosen up a bit.
