My first cup of coffee with grinds obtained from the DF83 was one of the tastiest brews I have ever had. It reinforced the claim made many times by coffee gurus that the grinder is more important to the quality of the cup than the brewer. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends.The second cup on the following day didn't taste as good. It was fine, but nothing special. Then, the next two cups didn't taste right at all. They had a distinctive metallic taste. This was a really strange phenomenon. I Googled the problem and discovered that others had experienced this, but that it was only a temporary result of the manufacturing process and would go away if you seasoned the grinder with a lot of coffee. I had a bag of coffee beans that I didn't much like, so I ran through maybe 1 lb of coffee. This caused the grinder to stall and would no longer function. I opened the grinder and discovered that it was completely jammed by half-ground beans.It was easy enough to clean the main area around the burrs, but what was NOT easy was cleaning the exit chute. Removing two small screws at the top allowed me to remove the cover over the chute, but that didn't fully open up the exit path. To do that I would have had to remove two other screws that would reveal the declumper area. However, I was dissuaded from doing this by warnings that you had to be really careful not to drop the screws inside the motor housing.I used a vacuum to clean this area as well as I could, and I was able to even grind another batch of beans for a couple of cups worth. However, after that the grinder clogged again, the exit chute again being the culprit.I had reached my limit. I had had two other grinders for several months and never had a problem. They only received superficial cleaning during this period. The DF83 functioned properly for only a week, even after I had given it a deep clean twice without success.I decided to return it and I ordered the DF64V as a replacement. It allows for easy and full access to the exit chute for deep cleaning. The is a maddening design flaw with the DF83, which I attribute to the declumper, which causes the clog, and the exit chute assembly, which makes deep cleaning very difficult..
