Um... Can I just simply say "Lifesaver"? because thats what this is. I've been using a Red Rooster Trading Co Camano coffee mill, which I must say has been worthless. It doesn't hold a very steady grind, the shaft wobbles and causes the consistency to get even worse the more you use it not to mention it weights probably 10 times what this gem of a grinder does.Enough about that (don't buy it!)I've been in love with GSI products since buying their Dualist cook set, so when I found out they made a coffee grinder I was elated. I made my purchase literally the day I found out that this product was available, hoping to use it on a climbing trip I had planned, unfortunately it showed up the day after I left (still a day before the expected delivery date) very well packaged.Immediately I had to inspect it. I'm a mechanic by trade so I'm pretty into how things work, this is one finely crafted device, a large sealed bearing on top keeps the shaft movement steady. It has a "guide" of sorts midway between this bearing and the ceramic burr. The only improvement I could ask for would be to insert a bearing or bushing in this location to really stabilize the shaft, but still this thing is solid. Everything fits together perfectly, the pieces that are meant to be removed regularly are snug friction fits with ribs so that it doesn't get stuck together. (brilliant guys.. brilliant.)I put a couple handfuls of beans through first to kind of break it in, then gave it some more thorough checks. It held about 23 grams of my favorite beans which are a light roast from a local roasterie. Gave me an amazingly consistent press grind. I then cranked it down as tight as it would go to see how well it would do for an espresso grind. SHOCKING. Beautiful. I can't believe how well this thing functions.So excited to take it backpacking as soon as I can.
